William “Billy” R. Maini, age 59, of Middleborough, passed away after losing a hard fought battle with cancer on Saturday, December 24, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Billy was born and raised in Plymouth where he attended public schools and graduated from Plymouth-Carver High School in 1981. He worked on fishing boats for a few years throughout high school. Ultimately Billy was a cranberry grower for most of his life. He worked for Red Eye Cranberry as well as Tim Tom Cranberry both family run businesses that span across Plymouth County. Billy also worked for Howland Disposal for several years. He even took on a part-time job for many years at CCM&T (Cranberry Country Machine & Tool, Inc.) in Middleborough.
Billy loved to fish; it was truly a way of life for him. He would spend countless hours salt-water fishing off the shore of Saquish in Plymouth. He also loved to hunt, cook, garden, go boating, and collect unique things. Filling his basement and garage with everything from old hand tools and turtle shells to sports memorabilia and antiques. Billy was content sitting at home in his favorite chair watching his favorite show The Three Stooges. Or you could find him in the garage sitting by the work bench either deep in conversation with someone or scrolling through YouTube. Billy was an avid Boston sports fan; always rooting for the Patriots, Red Sox, and Bruins. He played hockey in his youth, always keeping a strong interest in the sport. Even with all these hobbies and responsibilities, he still managed to find time to raise chickens and turkeys.
Family always came first for Billy. He cherished the time he got to spend with his family and friends. Always looking forward to the next family trip, whether it was weekends at Saquish, a few days up north, or even a week-long trip somewhere tropical. He treasured his role as Papa to his two grandchildren with a third one on the way. For anyone who ever met Billy they would know he was quick to make you laugh and he was someone that fun just gravitated towards. His sense of humor and gentle soul will be missed.
Billy was the beloved husband for 33 years to Susan (Pink) Maini; loving father of Kayla Marshall & her husband Garry of Plymouth, Krystin Maini of Middleborough, Daniel Maini of Middleborough & Madison Toth, and Dylan Maini of Middleborough & his fiancée Sydney Millette; treasured grandfather of Skarlett and Logan Marshall; cherished son of Barbara (Brown) Maini of Plymouth & the late Alan Maini; dear brother of Ann Hart & her husband Steve of Connecticut, Christopher Maini & his wife Shirley of Wareham, and David Maini & his wife Renee of Plymouth; dear son-in-law of Lawrence & Nancy Pink of Middleborough; brother-in-law of Tammie Pink of Florida, Timothy Pink of Carver, the late Wayne Pink & his surviving wife Karen Pink of Carver. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
