OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) William L. Byrne, aged 86, lifelong resident of Middleboro, died on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at his home. He was the husband of Joan (Wallace) Byrne, and the late Jean (LeBaron) Byrne. He was a Middleboro High School graduate, class of 1949. William L. Byrne Co. was started from the purchase of one dump truck in 1951. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America. Working from his home, Bill Byrne used his dump truck to haul materials for several local companies. The land, that continues today as the business site, was purchased in 1958. Excavation and sand & gravel were the main activities at the time. The William L Byrne Co. became W. L. Byrne Inc. and was incorporated in 1964. Byrne Sand & Gravel Co. Inc. was opened as a corporation in 1966. In 1974 Byrne Sand & Gravel Co. Inc. became a concrete supplier and W. L. Byrne Inc. became the aggregate company and gradually discontinued the excavation portion of the business. Cranberry production began in the late 80
