OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) Vernon "Skip" Vigers, 79, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2013, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, following a brief illness. Born in Lakeville, on May 4, 1933, he was the son of the late James J. and Gladys (DeMaranville) Vigers. Skip served as Sergeant with the 64th Tank Battalion in the U.S. Army, and earned an honorable discharge after serving 16 months in Korea. A lifelong resident of Lakeville and Middleboro, he was an active member of the community. He was a member of the Lakeville United Church of Christ; and was a volunteer with the Lakeville Fire Department. He was a member of the Kiwanis and had served as President of the Lakeville and Middleboro chapters. He was an accomplished builder and owned and operated West Grove Homes, Inc.. Skip owned and operated the well-known Eugene's Restaurant in Middleboro. Skip lived a full and happy life doing the many thing he enjoyed: spending time with his children, traveling, taking in rodeo shows, working his yard, and traveling about town bringing smiles to everyone he met. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. He is survived by four children: John D. Vigers of Middleboro; Paul V. Vigers and his wife, Ann of Bourne; Laura L. Vigers along with Candace Malaspino of Bourne; James E. Vigers, of FL. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Brian Griswold, Jennifer Freitas and Raymond Vigers; one great-grandchild: Kaitlyn Freitas; a sister, Bette "Pinkie" Darling; and a sister-in-law: Martha Vigers, both of Lakeville, many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Earl Vigers, James Vigers, Sheldon Vigers and Thelma LeBlance; and he was formerly married to Diana (Williams), mother of their four children. "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years," was a favorite quote of his. To quote Skip, "I've had a great life!" We love you Dad. A service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 9th at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
