OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) Stewart A. (Stew) Whitmarsh, of Middleboro, formerly of Kingston, son of the late John and Ruth (Guimond) Whitmarsh, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, in his Middleboro home at age 75. He was the husband of Catherine (Palmisano) Whitmarsh; they had been married for 52 years. Stew graduated from Hanover High School in 1957 and served in the United States Army Signal Corp from 1957-1960. He worked at American Sandpaper (later known as Clipper Abrasives) from 1960-1985, and he attended Newbury Junior College during that time as well. He later managed hardware and paint stores, in the South Shore area, until retirement. Before moving to Middleboro in 2002, he lived in Kingston for 33 years. Stew was a member of the Oak Point Veterans Association. In his free time he enjoyed attending NASCAR races and country music concerts, as well as traveling, walking, playing pool, working on jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching sports events, and spending time with family and friends. Stew is survived by his wife of 52 years, Catherine; two daughters, Donna Whitmarsh of Marshfield and Cheryl Whitmarsh of Braintree; his brother, Douglas Whitmarsh of Abington, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, March 1st from 2-5 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 2nd at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St. Middleboro, at 10:30 am. Burial with Military Honors will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 pm.
