OBITUARY: (BOSTON) Robert D. Holland, born 27 August, 1926, died on January 12, 2017, of Middleboro and husband to the late Mary Elizabeth (Peckham), son of the late Charles J. Holland and the late Katherine S. (O'Loughlin). Father to the late, Kathleen Mary (Foye) and husband Dennis of Middleboro, Robert D. Holland and wife Ann-Marie of Middleboro, Maureen Harris and the late Ian C. Harris, of Modesto, California and James P. Holland and wife Monica of Modesto, California and the late Francis A. Holland. He is survived by his sister Catherine Cameron, of North Easton, Massachusetts and his brother in law Waldo W. Peckham of New Bedford and sister in law, Joanne (Peckham) Fournier of Acushnet, and Ralph F. Peckham of Connecticut. He was the brother of the late Pauline Cavanuagh, Charles Holland Jr, Francis Holland, and Barbara Kosinski. He was also a previous resident of Lakeville, New Bedford, Dartmouth, San Jose, California, and Sun City, Arizona. Mr. Holland was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Pacific Theater and a recipient of the Silver Star for five battles he participated in, one being the largest naval battle in history, the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was also an active member and communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Middleboro. He enjoyed the many friendships he developed with people in the Middleboro and Lakeville COAs. Bob first worked in the TV/radio repair business. He went to college on the G.I. Bill and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from S.M.T.I. (now University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth) in 1967. Most of his career after that was spent as an Electrical Engineer in Silicon Valley, CA. Robert was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed many events at the Shamrock Club in Sun City, Arizona. He was always very interested in leading edge technology and was an early adopter of personal computers. He was also a facilitator at the Computer Club in Sun City, Arizona. In addition to his immediate family, he enjoyed the company and love from his grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew, Kerry, Daniel, Neal, Sean, Kenneth, Elizabeth, Sophia and Gabriela as well as his twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, cousins and a large number of dedicated friends. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 17th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 18th at 10 am in Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St. Middleboro. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Middleboro.
