Richard James Stuhler, age 77, of Taunton, formerly of Augusta, Georgia, died on Monday, August 30, 2021, at his home.
Born in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of the late Franklin & Gladys (Pfohl) Stuhler. Richard grew up and attended schools in Buffalo, NY and played football at John Carroll University. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Hawaii where he met his future wife, Cecelia Lenore Tomber. Richard served in Vietnam, ending his service on the USS Benjamin Franklin submarine. For many years, he worked as a mechanical engineer throughout the country and across the globe. Richard loved his family very much. He was a devout Catholic, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a lover of dogs.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Cecelia (Tomber) Stuhler; devoted father of Amanda Stuhler Hilton & her husband Stephen of Middleborough, Benjamin Stuhler & his wife Amanda of Bettendorf, Iowa, Elizabeth Stuhler Mulryan & her husband Sean of Framingham, and Kathleen Stuhler-Rushton & her husband Jacob of Somerset; cherished grandfather of Shea Hilton, Amelia Rushton, Hailey Stuhler, Claire Stuhler and Connor Stuhler; and dear brother of Norma Stuhler Boteler of Ocala, Florida.
Family and friends are welcome to the Visiting Hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 4:00-8:00 PM.
All are invited to gather at the Ashley Funeral Home, Middleborough on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 9:15 AM, followed by Richard's funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Isidore Parish, Saints Martha & Mary Church, 354 Bedford Street, Lakeville, at 10:00 AM.
Interment services will be private.
