Richard N. Childs

Richard N. Childs, age 98, a resident of Marion for 64 years, formerly of Foxborough, died on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at the Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

Born in Norwood, he was the son of the late Walter E. Childs & Rena G. (Shepardson) Childs and the late Mary Charlotte (Movalli) Childs.  Richard was a graduate of Foxborough High School, Class of 1941.  He was self-employed, working as a land clearer, private contractor and builder all over Massachusetts particularly in Foxborough and Mansfield.  Richard remodeled homes, was a Jack-of-all-trades, enjoyed furniture building, and could be found helping those in need.  He also enjoyed fishing, scalloping, shellfishing, clamming and quahogging, all of which he sold to the public with his vendor's license.  Richard was also very active with the Dexter Beach Association in Marion.  He will be missed by many.

Richard was the beloved husband for 56 years to the late Berniece M. (DeMoranville) Childs; loving father of Kent R. Childs of Marion; dear brother of Robert Childs of Wrentham, Ruth Marks of Lexington, KY, Rev. Donald Childs of Winfield, IL, Rev. Lloyd Childs of Caldwell, ID, and the late Arthur, Walter (Bill), Bessie, Marion, and Bruce; and cousin of the late Myron Shepardson.

There will be NO visiting hours.

Family and friends are welcome to the memorial services at the First Congregational Church at the Green, 6 Plympton Street, Middleborough, on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow at the Cemetery at the Green, Plympton Street, Middleborough.
