Rene Guilmet Obituary

OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) Rene Guilmet 82, of Middleboro MA, passed away Thursday, January 25 surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Lawrence MA and attended Central Catholic High School where he was a shining star on the football team. Rene married his childhood sweetheart, Cecile (Demers) Guilmet in 1957, and just celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss this past June. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy and served on the Cassin Young. He was employed by Gerber Products for more than 30 years and a very active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Lawrence for many years. After retirement, Rene moved to Middleboro MA, to Oak Point where he began the next chapter of his wonderful life. He formed many cherished friendships. He loved to bowl with the club he created there. He also enjoyed shooting some pool and playing cards. His kind generous soul was extremely active in volunteering for Helping Hands. Rene was a wonderful funny man who enjoyed sharing stories and telling jokes. To know him, was to love him!! He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He coached all of his 5 children in various sports and activities and never missed a game. Rene enjoyed life to the fullest and shared that joy with everyone he met. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots from the comfort of his own home, while dressed in his lucky team attire. Rene is survived by his wife Cecile (Demers) Guilmet, and his five children. Stephen Guilmet of Attleboro, John Guilmet and wife Nancie of Andover, Linda (Guilmet) Arsenault and husband Rob of Lawrence, Sharon (Guilmet)Fries and husband Robert of Bridgewater, Brian Guilmet and wife Jacquelyn of Hanson. He was also the proud Pepere to 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also survived by his brother Alfred and wife Barbara, brothers-in-law: Father Gerard Demers, and Norman Demers and his wife Joyce. Visiting hours will be held on Friday February 2nd, from 4-7 pm at Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. Celebration of Life at Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St. Middleboro, Saturday February 3rd at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Middleboro.
