Nellie A. (Stone) Mello, age 95, of Middleborough, died on Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Oakhill Healthcare Nursing Center in Middleborough.
Born in Quincy, she was the daughter of the late Walter & Mary (Bishop) Stone. For many years, Nellie was a baton twirling instructor and teacher for the Middleborough Public Schools and as an instructor on her own. She was well-known for being "Nell's Bells" in the Middleborough Christmas Parades, twirling her baton and entertaining the crowds.
Nellie was the beloved wife of the late Donald Mello; loving mother of Nancy Swift of Carver & her late husband Clyde Swift, Louise Silvia & her husband Ronald of Carver and Stem, North Carolina, Donald Mello, Jr. of Idaho and the late Robert Mello. She is also survived by her loving daughter-in-law Pauline Mello of Middleborough, her 8 loving grandchildren, Adam, Vicky, Nancy, Sarah, Daniel, Nicholas, Lisa and Dawn, 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren, her dear brother Robert Gage of Brockton, and her nieces and nephews. Nellie was the dear sister of the late Ruth, William, Elizabeth, Edna, Lucy, Louise, Joanne and Barbara.
All are welcome to the visiting hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 NOON, with a prayer service starting at 12:00 NOON.
Interment will be private.
