Mildred "Millie" Louise (Candlish) Chetwynd, age 81, of Middleborough, formerly of Marshfield and Roxbury, died on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Morton Hospital in Taunton.
Born in Roxbury, she was the daughter of the late James & Pauline (Whitney) Candlish. Millie attended the former Sarah J. Baker School, located on Perrin Street in Roxbury, and later attended the former Saint Patrick School for Girls in Roxbury, staffed by the Sisters of Charity, and she was a graduate from the Class of 1961.
She began her working career as an Executive Secretary for the Stop & Shop Headquarters, located on "D" Street in South Boston. Millie went onto beauty school, attending the La Baron Hairdressing Academy in Brockton. Upon completion at La Baron Academy, she worked as a hairstylist at JCPenney in Kingston, for many years. In retirement, Mille enjoyed reading, sewing and crocheting; she dabbled with painting and loved flowers, with purple being her favorite color. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and doting on them.
Millie was the beloved wife for 61 years to Thomas Chetwynd; loving mother of Adam Chetwynd & his wife Angie and Jason Chetwynd & his wife Jessica of East Bridgewater; cherished grandmother of Emma, Gabriella and Owen; dear sister of Patricia Coutrier of Florida, James Candlish & his wife Barbara of Plympton, Pauline Hufault of Fairhaven & Florida and the late Julie Siteman. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Millie was the lifelong friend of Barbara Quigley, Mary McLaughlin, Judy McKenna, Maureen Bogan and the late Jeanie McSwain.
All are welcome to the visiting hours at the Ashley~Drolette Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 4:00-6:30 PM.
Funeral and interment services are private.
