Marion I. Sylvia, 92(3/4) years young, was surrounded by her loving family in the home she so loved in Middleborough, when she passed peacefully home to God on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. She was the wife of the late M. Victor Sylvia.
Born and raised in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Julia (Rose) Silvia. She attended Taunton area schools and was employed as a secretary for Reed and Barton for many years before marrying and moving to Middleborough. Marion and Vic ran Victor Sylvia Greenhouses on Plymouth Street in North Middleborough and later Finn Pines Picnic Grounds on John’s Pond in Carver, both that many remember well.
Marion was well known for her home-baked “goodies”, competitive nature, and her enthusiasm for sharing her love and faith with all. She loved making puzzles, playing card games, especially cribbage, and playing other games. She was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching and cheering on her teams with her family. One of her greatest personal achievements was becoming a certified teacher in Japanese embroidery (Bunka), holding classes at her home for over 30 years. Most of all, Marion cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, especially at family holidays and gatherings at John’s Pond.
She is survived by her daughters: Debora and husband Dane of Plymouth; Cheryl Sylvia-Kirwin of Coventry, RI; son Roy Sylvia and wife Susan of Middleborough; sister-in-law Virginia Silvia of North Dighton; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and their beloved pets; several nieces and nephews and other dear family members.
Marion was the sister of the late Alice Lima and husband John, the late John Silvia, and the late Edward Silvia and wife Loretta, all of North Dighton.
We sincerely thank all the staff at Cranberry Hospice of Plymouth for helping us through the past year caring for our dear mother.
Marion was an inspiration to all who knew her. She’ll be forever remembered for her kind words and deeds, her smile and her “goodies”. Until we meet again, we all love you a “bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”.
There will be a private graveside service.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made payable to: Middleborough Friends, P.O. Box 229, Middleborough, MA 02346. Please notate on the memo line “Victor Sylvia Scholarship Fund”.
