M. 'Dottie' Deodata (Amaral) Gomes

M. "Dottie" Deodata (Amaral) Gomes, age 84, of Taunton, formerly of Middleborough, died peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at her home.

She was born in Pontagarca, Saint Michael, the Azores, a daughter of the late Tobias C. & Maria Lurdes (Rodrigues) Amaral.  At age 18, Dottie came to the United States and became a proud U.S. citizen, a country she loved.  She started her working career in a shoe factory, decided to excel, so she went on to hairdressing school and enrolled in the LeBaron Hairdressing Academy formerly in Brockton.  Upon graduation, Dottie worked at Tina's Beauty Salon in Easton.  In 1966, she opened her own beauty salon in Taunton, which she owned and operated until November 2020, closing due to COVID.  Dottie was an out-going, kind and loving person; loyal to everyone in her life as well as her customers.  When visiting Dottie, she would give you a cup of coffee, a muffin or a "goodie" to make you feel warm and welcome.  Dottie was generous; giving to many organizations including soup kitchens, but she always kept a low profile.  She was active, maintaining her home up until two years ago.  Family was very important to Dottie; she was loved by all of the family members and she will be sorely missed.

Dottie was the beloved wife of the late Francis E. Gomes; loving sister of Gilberto Amaral of Middleborough, Antonio Amaral of Somerset, M. Louisa Brown of Middleborough, the late Jose Amaral and the late Maria Conceicao DeCosta; cherished aunt of 18 nieces and nephews, 33 great-nieces and great-nephews and many great great-nieces and great great-nephews.  She was also the aunt of the late Jean Marie Amaral.

There will be NO visiting hours.

All are welcome to attend her funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Isidore Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre Street, Middleborough, on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Wood Street, Middleborough.
