Linda J. Matthews

Linda J. (McLelland) Matthews, age 77, of Middleborough, a dearly loved Wife, Mother, Nana, and Friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the Morton Hospital in Taunton, following a brief illness. Linda was born on July 3, 1943 in Freehold, New Jersey where she lived until moving to Massachusetts in 1972 with her husband and sons. She was the daughter of the late James McLelland and Helen (Erickson) McLelland Weller. Linda leaves behind her husband, William Matthews of 57 years who was her high school sweetheart; her son, Robert of Middleborough; grandchildren, Michala Matthews and partner Brendan Thomas of Milford, Molly Matthews, and Michael Matthews both of Middleborough, a great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Thomas of Milford.
Linda was also survived by her sister, Shirley of New Jersey and her late brother Charles.
She was also the loving mother of her late sons, William Jr. and Brian Matthews. Linda worked as a home health aide for many years and retired from Catholic Charities. She truly enjoyed and loved caring for her clients, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Linda was a caring and loving wife, mom and nana (known as Nan). There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for her family. Family was always first. She enjoyed and looked forward to lunch dates with her son and grandchildren, and just spending quality time. She was always there to listen, never passed judgement, and gave the greatest advice. She loved spending weeks in the spring and summer at the Maine house, and occasionally even riding 4wheelers through the trails with her husband and son. There will be no visiting hours. Funeral and interment services will be private.
