OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) Joseph Silvia Jr., 80, of Middleboro, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 17, 2017. Born in Taunton, MA, January 8, 1937, he was the son of Joseph and Marie (Goulart) Silvia. Joe worked hard his whole life for his family. In his younger years, he was employed at Stiles and Hart Brick yard, where he worked alongside his father and his son. Joe later served 21 years as a Middleboro Fire Fighter and retired as a Captain in 1987. A kind and generous man, he enjoyed his early retirement years camping with his wife Theresa at Bourne Scenic Park. Joe enjoyed being outside working around the yard, gardening, and taking rides to Plymouth to sit on the waterfront. He was a proud grandfather and enjoyed attending his grandson's baseball and basketball games. His greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family, whom he was deeply devoted to. Joe was the loving husband of 58 years of Theresa (Teceno) Silvia, and the loving and caring father of Cynthia Phillips and her husband Bill, Deborah Bean and her husband Joe, and Edward Silvia all of Middleboro. He was the proud grandfather of Tressah Maguire of Easton, Chelsea McLaughlin, Joseph Bean III, Kade Phillips and Zachary Silvia, all of Middleboro, known fondly to them as Papa. He was a great-papa to Mariah Elliott, Bailey Phillips and Blake Phillips of Middleboro, Joe was also the loving brother of Ronald Silvia and his wife Mary, James Silvia and his wife Jane, and the late Luann Mulhern, and leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 24th from 4-7 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 25th at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St. Middleboro. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Middleboro.
