OBITUARY: (LAKEVILLE) John Haas Penman, 93, of Lakeville, died on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Island Terrace Nursing Home, Lakeville, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Mildred (Raywak) Penman, who predeceased him in December of 2007. Born in Youngstown, OH; he was the son of the late John and Margie (Haas) Penman. John was a loving husband and father. He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army during WWII. A lifelong resident of Pennsylvania, until 2004, he retired from the Commonwealth Telephone Company in Dallas, PA, as an electrical engineer. John was a proud member of the George M. Dallas Masonic Lodge in Pennsylvania for over 60 years. He was a service oriented man, who volunteered his time as a literacy tutor and driver for the cancer society for many years. John was an animal lover and made regular monthly donations to many animal rights organizations as well as several veterans organizations. Most recently, he was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, Cotuit. In Pennsylvania, he belonged to, and served well, the Russian Orthodox community in Dallas, PA. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah A. and her husband Barry Smith of Lakeville. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, November 5th from 4-7 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 6th at 10 am at St. Michael the Archangel Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 62 Main St Cotuit, MA 02635. Burial will take place at 11:30 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
