OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) James Allen Bennett of Middleboro, formerly of Hull passed away on Monday, April 24, after a battle with cancer. Jim was the son of the late Blanche and Edward Bennett. He leaves his wife of 25 years, Marcia Bennett (Dunajski) of Middleboro and his sisters, Joan Brown of Cohasset and Carol Bredberg of Wareham along with brother-in-law Merle Brown and many family members and friends. His was predeceased by his brother Steven. A graduate of Hull High School Class of 1967, Jim enlisted in the Marines after school and was a member of Company one 3rd Battalion 9th Marines 3rd MarDivision. While fighting in Vietnam, Jim was reported missing along with his battalion. After several days, his family reached out to Senator Ted Kennedy who was instrumental in communicating the status of the missing troops until they were located. Jim was awarded a Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. When Jim recovered from his wounds, he purchased a lobster boat and hauled off the waters of Hull. He and his wife eventually purchased a home in Middleboro. Services will be held at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleboro. Visitation on Sunday, April 30, from 2 - 4 p.m. Funeral service from the funeral home on Monday, May 1, at 10 a.m. followed by a procession to the Bourne National VA Cemetery.
