Helen Smarsh

Helen Smarsh, age 95, of Middleborough, died on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Born in Middleborough, she was the daughter of the late Andrew & Nellie (Sowyrda) Smarsh. Helen grew up in Middleborough, graduated from Middleborough High School, Class of 1943 and continued her education at Bridgewater State earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education, graduating in 1947. For many years, she was a teacher in the public school systems. Helen also taught education in Germany and Japan through the U.S. AirForce and Department of Defense. Helen was the beloved aunt of William "Bill" Riley of Poquoson, Virginia and the late Robert Riley; loving great-aunt of Shannon Riley and Ashlynn Schar; dear sister of the late Eva Riley, Ann Smarsh and David Smarsh. There will be NO visiting hours. Funeral and Interment services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen's memory may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 72 East Concord Street, Room C3, Boston, MA 02118.
