George Michael Obituary

OBITUARY: (MIDDELBORO) George James Michael, aged 93, lifelong resident of Middleboro, died on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Nemasket Health Care Center, Middleboro. He was the husband of the late Geneva A. (Galanto) Michael. Born in Middleboro, he was the son of the late Manuel and Elizabeth (McMahon) Michael. He was a 1941 graduate of Middleboro Memorial High School. He served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII. He was a retired supervisor with the Massachusetts Department of Public Works, retiring after 41 ½ years. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Middleboro. George was a member of the Mitchell Memorial Club, the Middleboro Lodge of Elks, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting with his beagles, listening to music, singing, the outdoors, and especially his family. Survivors include a son, Gary A. Michael and his wife Donna, of Ashburnham, MA; two daughters, Gail A. Carey, of East Wareham, Gina M. and her husband Robert L. Bowser Jr., of Plymouth; a brother, Walter Michael, of Middleboro; two grandchildren, Peri Michael and Sian Michael, both of Ashburnham; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 21st from 4-7 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday, at 9 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St. Middleboro, at 10 am. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Middleboro. In lieu of flowers, donations to: Nemasket Health Care Activities Fund, 314 Marion Rd. Middleboro, MA 02346 or to: Fidelis Hospice, 25 Railroad Sq. Haverhill, MA 01832.
