Evelyn C. (Martins) Bumpus, age 82, of Lakeville, formerly of Middleborough, died on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
She was born and grew up in Middleborough, attended public schools and was a graduate of Middleborough High School. Evelyn continued her education at Bridgewater State graduating with her Teacher's Degree, and earned her Master's Degree in Special Education at Simmons College in Boston. She was a First Grade Teacher at the Assawompset Elementary School in Lakeville for 28 years. In retirement, Evelyn enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society and looked forward to the weekly gatherings with her friends at McDonalds, the Tami Park in Lakeville and Apazidis Family Restaurant in Middleborough. She saw many places, as she travelled around the world enjoying herself. Evelyn loved being a grandmother; spending time with her grandchildren. She is known for making her famous "silver-dollar pancakes". She will be missed by many.
Evelyn was the daughter of the late Jacintho & Anna (Carreiro) Martins; beloved mother of Sherri Larson & her husband Mark of Lakeville, Howie Bumpus & his wife Christine of Lakeville and Jeff Bumpus of Lakeville; loving grandmother of Kelsey Arruda & her husband Joseph, Shawn Bumpus & Shannon, Tyler Larson and Mitch Bumpus; dear sister of the late Jimmy Martin & his surviving wife Meredith Martin of Bridgewater and the late John Martin, George Martin and Harry Martin. Evelyn was the former wife of the late Gordon G. Bumpus.
Family and friends are invited to the visiting hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Friday, November 5, 2021, from 4:00-8:00 PM.
All are welcome to the funeral service at the Ashley Funeral Home, Middleborough, on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 10:00 AM.
Interment will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Wood Street, Middleborough.
