OBITUARY: (LAKEVILLE) Eugene E. McManus, 85, longtime resident of Lakeville, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at home. He was the husband of the late Constance M. (Smith) McManus; who predeceased him on January 11, 2013. He was born in Middleboro; son of the late Albert V. and Clara Rose (Jacintho) McManus. He was a graduate of Middleboro High School, class of 1947. He served in the United States Army, during WWI and also during the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a retired corrections officer at Massachusetts Correctional Institute in Bridgewater. He was a member of the Rhody Rovers Camping Group, the Middleboro Lodge of Elks, the Mitchell Memorial Club, the Freetown Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Plymouth County Police Association. Survivors include a brother, Robert McManus of FL; a sister-in-law, Marjorie and her husband Larry Cowan of Lakeville; a niece, Debra Davis of Middleboro; two nephews, Mark Demers of Wareham, Scott Demers of FL. He was father of the late David A. McManus, and brother of the late Albert V. McManus Jr., and Marilyn A. Wilson. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 16th from 4-7 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. A graveside service will be held at Central Cemetery, Centre St Middleboro, on Monday, November 17th at 10 am.
