Elizabeth "BETTY" M. (Duff) Murphy

Elizabeth "Betty" Mary Murphy (nee Duff), 12/16/1934 - 4/3/2022.  Betty crossed over peacefully at the Hannah Shaw House on 4/3/2022 at the age of 87.

She was a graduate of Trinity University and her professional career was as diverse as her interests and talents.  She was an elementary school teacher, the owner of Middleboro Miniatures, and widely known as the proprietor of Murphy Real Estate.

She was the 7th of ten children and is predeceased by her 9 sisters and brothers: Roderick, Paul, Ellen, John, Brian, Kevin, Gerry, Sheila, and Brendan, and her parents, Frances and Dr. Paul Duff of Peabody, MA.  She is survived by her five children; Ellen, Paul, Brendan, Elizabeth and Maria; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and dozens of nieces, nephews and their cousins.

She was a devoted Catholic and her faith was a pillar of strength to all who knew her.  She was a storyteller, a believer in miracles, a champion of underdogs, and a force of love and wonder.  She was as fierce as she was gentle, as open minded as she was judicious, and an unwavering ally to everyone she loved.  She leaves behind a legacy of pilgrimages, heart readings, birthday cards, spiritual bouquets and the understanding that love is everything.  She inspired us to drop quarters into strangers' parking meters, run barefoot through late summer monsoons, make wishes in churches, and to assume the best of people as we are all children of God.

Family and friends are welcome to the visiting hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 3:00-7:00 PM.

All are invited to gather at the Ashley Funeral Home, Middleborough, on Saturday, April 9, 2022, starting at 9:15 AM, followed by her funeral Mass of Christian burial at Saint Isidore Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre Street, Middleborough, at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, 990 LaGrange Street, West Roxbury.
