OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) Edward J. Silvia, 54, of Middleboro, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Middleboro, MA, on October 12, 1962, he was the loving son of the late Joseph Silvia Jr. and Theresa Silvia. Ed was a 1980 graduate of Middleboro High School. The summer after graduation he worked side by side with his Dad at Stiles and Hart Brickyard. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1981 and was honorably discharged in 1985. He was employed by the United States Post Office for 26 years, retiring in 2011. He was a longtime student of Vechi Ryu Karate, of which he loved passionately and had earned a 4th degree blackbelt. Ed was the loving and caring father of Zachary E. Silvia, who was the joy of his life and whom he was deeply devoted to. He was the brother of Cynthia Phillips and her husband Bill, and Deborah Bean and her husband Joe. He was a caring uncle to Tressah Maguire of Easton, Chelsea McLaughlin, Joseph Bean III and Kade Phillips of Middleboro. He is also survived by great nieces Mariah Elliott, Bailey and Blake Phillips and great nephew Michael Maguire. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 6th from 4-7 pm in the Ashely Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 7th at 10 am in Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St. Middleboro. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Middleboro.
