Edith W. (Bresee) Proffetty

Edith Winifred (Bresee) Proffetty, age 84, died on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Saint Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.

Edith was born in Middleborough, grew up and attended public schools in Raynham and was a graduate of Taunton High School.  She continued her education, attending Fitchburg State earning her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and then attending Bridgewater State receiving her Master's Degree.  For several years, Edith worked at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Brockton and later worked as a Nursing Inspector for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  She was responsible for inspecting nursing homes within the state and making sure all appropriate nursing protocols were being followed.  In retirement, Edith kept busy; she liked to sew and make doll clothing as well as children's dresses.  She donated the items that she made to the needy in foreign countries.  Edith was an avid reader and loved working on jigsaw puzzles!

Edith was the loving daughter of the late John J. & Winifred E. (Darling) Bresee; beloved wife of the late Louis Proffetty; loving sister of Dwight Bresee & his wife Naomi of Texas and Susan Ladebauche & her late husband Paul of Arkansas; cherished aunt of Sherry, Cathy & Jason, Linda & Todd, John & Josie; and great-aunt of four.

There will be NO visiting hours.

Family and friends are welcome to Edith's funeral service at the Steeple Point Church, (formerly the First Baptist Church), 494 Church Street, Raynham, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM.

Interment services will be private.
