Donald A. Pierce, age 76, of East Taunton, formerly of Brockton, died suddenly on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Morton Hospital in Taunton.
Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Theodore & Gertrude (Michaud) Pierce. Donald attended Sacred Heart School in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School, Class of 1966. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, earning the rank of Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1970. Donald worked for Amtrak and Massachusetts Bay Commuter Rail Company as a Locomotive Engineer for over 35 years. He was an avid train collector as well as a member of the South Shore Model Railway Club in Hingham. Donald was also a member of the Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club and the Middleboro Elks Lodge #1274. Trains and clubs kept Donald busy, but Donald's true passion was his family and he especially loved his grandchildren.
Donald was the beloved husband of Donna (Flaherty) Pierce for 55 years; loving father of Christopher Pierce & his wife Heidi of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Michelle Pierce of Plymouth; cherished grandfather of Matthew and Dylan; devoted brother of Steven Pierce & his wife Cynthia of Needham and the late Marie Needham & her surviving husband William Needham of Londonderry, NH; dear brother-in-law of Patricia, Debra, Mary, Christine, and the late Jeanne and Donald Jr. (Buddy). He was the uncle to many cherished nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to the visiting hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Friday, July 5, 2024, from 3:00-6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 6:00 PM.
Interment services will be private.
