Coralie (Staples) Sweeney

Coralie (Staples) Sweeney, 92, of Middleborough, died on Monday October 11, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.

She was the daughter of the late Arthur W. Staples and Svea Ahlstrom.  Coralie was born in Whitman, summered in Onset and lived in Brockton for many years.

Coralie was the beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Sweeney, the adored mother of Maura Sweeney-Reeve and the cherished mother-in-law of Stephen Reeve.  She is survived by her sister Barbara O’Rourke of Whitman, and pre-deceased by her brothers Arthur, John, Richard, Larry and Paul and her sisters Shirley and Anne.

Coralie devoted her life to children and helping others.  She was a Teacher’s Aide in Brockton where she worked with Special Needs children.  Her home was always open to all the neighborhood kids where she could be found helping them with craft projects, cooking or just reading to them on a rainy day.  She was loved by all and it was always special to get to go see Coralie.  She was involved in 4-H and Morgan Horses and spent countless hours at horse shows and Morgan events.  Coralie loved to spend time at her daughter and son-in-law’s Reevedale Farm where she adored the horses.

Coralie’s smile lit up a room and she welcomed all with a friendly hello, a smile or a hug.  She was welcomed wherever she went and everyone was always happy to see her.  When she wasn’t helping others, she loved to sew, read and bowl but above all she loved to socialize.  She was always the first one to be invited to a party or asked to dinner.  She will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her.  Her family is forever grateful to her many caretakers and especially Lisa Casoli in the last few years of her life.

Family and friends are welcome to the Visiting Hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Sunday, October 17, 2021, from 4:00-7:00 PM.

All are invited to gather at the Ashley Funeral Home, Middleborough, on Monday, October 18, 2021, starting at 9:15 AM, followed by Coralie's funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Isidore Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre Street, Middleborough, at 10:00 AM.

Interment services at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to Toys for Tots, www.toysfortots.org or a Breast Cancer organization of your choice.
