Claire Phillips Obituary

Claire M. Phillips (Doiron), age 92, of Carver, died at her home on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

Born in Waltham, on October 26, 1933, she was the daughter of Arthur and Marguerite (LeBlanc) Doiron. Claire graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth Landing 1951 and later received her associate degree from Massasoit Community College in 1993.

Claire’s strong work ethic was established early on. She worked as a telephone operator at the Rockland Exchange and later drove for the Joseph Ingle Bus Service.  She spent the majority of her career at Ocean Spray, where she worked for many years before retiring.  She also served as President of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in 1959.

Claire married James “Jim” Phillips in 1994, and together they lived an active and happy life filled with travel and adventure.  She was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, where she hiked and helped maintain trails.  She was an avid cross-country skier and enjoyed road trips across the country with Jim.

A devout Catholic, she attended Mass weekly at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Carver, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.  She was also a highly skilled quilter and needlepoint artist, taking part in competitions and creating many pieces for her friends and family.

Claire was a strong and resilient woman who endured many challenges throughout her life.  She was known for her strength, independence, and direct nature.  She was an undeniable presence in the lives of those around her, and she will be deeply missed.

Claire was predeceased by her husband, James Phillips; her siblings, Arthur Doiron and Gloria Burrell; her stepson, Ronald Phillips; and her great-grandson, Carter Ingle.

She is survived by her children: Thomas Ingle and his husband, Lee Stovall; Joseph Ingle (predeceased by his wife, Molly); Stephen Ingle (predeceased by his wife, Linda); Cecile Ingle and her husband, Richard Bolinder; and Carole Ingle. She is also survived by her husband’s children: Brenda Christiansen and her husband Rick; Jim S. Phillips and his wife Linda; and Deborah Powers; and daughter-in-law, Diane Phillips.

She leaves behind her sister, Patricia Beardsley, her brother, Robert Doiron; her 10 grandchildren, John, Brant, Katie, Chris, Jennifer, Brianna, Emily, David, Samantha, and Nicholas; her 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to the visiting hours at the Ashley~Drolette Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 4:00-8:00 PM.

All are cordially invited to gather at the Ashley~Drolette Funeral Home, Middleborough, on Friday, April 17, 2026, starting at 9:15 AM, followed by Claire's Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at the Mary Queen of Martyrs Parish, OUR LADY OF LOURDES CHURCH,  130 Main Street, Route 58, CARVER, at 10:30 AM.

Interment will follow the Funeral Mass in the Nemasket Hill Cemetery, 515 Plymouth Street, Middleborough.
