Chester Holmes

OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) Chester Lawton (Lefty, Chet) Holmes,85, of Middleboro died at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2018. Devoted husband of 52 years to Annette (Ann) (Corey) Holmes. Born April 18, 1932 in Stoughton, son of the late Chester L., Sr. and Lillian (DeShon) Holmes. Survived by his children John Holmes and his partner Karla Bergman of Plant City, Florida, Garett Holmes, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth (Stockwell) of Middleboro, Priscilla (Holmes) Anderson of Kingston and Lorna (Holmes) Rankin and her husband Christopher of Plympton, and sister, Cora Chapman of Manchester, NH. Predeceased by brother Clayton and sister Audrey (Eagles). He leaves behind 8 loving grandchildren: Garett, Jr, Victoria, Kendra, Keith, Rebecca, Aidan, Guy and Lillian; and many nieces and nephews. Served as Army Corporal in 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War and a member of Army and Air Force National Guards. Middleboro resident for 45 years, retired Parole Officer for Brockton and the Bridgewaters and senior corrections officer at Norfolk Correctional Institution. Active in his community as a former member of the Middleboro Elks, coach for Middleboro Little League and hockey teams and dedicated supporter of his children's horse showing. He was an avid farmer, animal, lover and fan of The Boston Red Sox, attended many spring training games in Fort Meyers, Fl. Known to all for his kindness and devotion to his family, Chet will be sadly missed by his loved ones. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 7th from 4-7 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, January 8th at 11 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Association in Chester's name (www.alz.org)
