OBITUARY: (MIDDLEBORO) Anders Martenson Jr., 91, lifelong resident of Middleboro, died on Friday, October 3, 2014, at Morton Hospital, Taunton. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Teceno) M. Martenson; who predeceased him in March of 2007. Born and raised in Middleboro, he was the son of the late Anders and Blanche (Carey) Martenson. He was a high school graduate, attending high school in Sweden, and attended college in Florida. Anders was a WWII United States Army Veteran, serving with the Third Army 85th Infantry Division from November 1942 to February 1946, and was recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He had trained in Hawaii with the United States Air Force, before being drafted by the United States Army Infantry. Andy was town manager for Middleboro for over 20 years, and was involved in many civic organizations in Middleboro, town selectman, the Council on Aging, the Business and Industrial Commission, trustee of the Howard Maxim Foundation, a life member of the Middleboro Lodge of Elks and was a past exalted ruler. He also was proprietor of the former Martenson's Clothing Store. He was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church. Hobbies include but not limited to: fishing for salmon in Canada. He is survived by one son, Anders "Bud" III and Donna Martenson of Middleboro; two grandchildren, Jessica Mae Martenson Shields and her husband Daniel, and Andy Martenson IV, both of Middleboro; a great-granddaughter, Kylie Shields of Middleboro. He was brother of the late Gladys Shurtleff, Priscilla Wing, Beatrice Layman, and Ruth Edlung. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 8th from 6-8 pm in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St Middleboro. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, in the funeral home at 9 am. Burial will take place at Nemasket Hill Cemetery, Middleboro.
